DEATH INVESTIGATION CONSIDERED HOMICIDE
Posted: June 3rd, 2011 2:50 PM

The City of Sherwood Police is considering the suspicious death of an 11-year old Sherwood resident a Homicide. Previously, the Sherwood community had not experienced a homicide since 2001.
Officers from the City of Sherwood Police along with crews from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue were called to the 17600 block of SW Galewood Dr. in Sherwood at about 4:45 pm on Thursday June 2 on a report of an injured child. Inside the home, first responders located the 11-year old female victim who was quickly transported to a local area hospital where she was pronounced dead. The mother of the victim was also transported to a local area hospital for self-inflicted wounds.
The investigation is being conducted by the Washington County Major Crimes Team and overseen by the Washington County District Attorney's Office, which is standard procedure for suspicious deaths and homicides.
Investigators from the City of Sherwood Police, as well as six (6) other Washington County police agencies are participating in the ongoing investigation, which lasted throughout the night and continues at this time.
While family notifications have been made, police are not releasing or confirming the names of the victim or family out of respect for their privacy. "This is a very tragic event and the family deserves to have their moment of privacy to appropriately grieve, and at this time I believe that outweighs the public's need to know", said Chief Jeff Groth.

Investigators are currently speaking with family members and conducting additional interviews. The focus of the investigation is contained within the family.
Additional investigative information is being with-held at this time, to maintain the integrity of the criminal investigation.
