Thirteen artists from a local church youth group designed and created a beautiful mural to lift the spirits of children who visit the Children's Justice Center. The theme of the project is "Your Imagination Knows No Bounds" and the youth artists from the Young Women of Vancouver West Stake from The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints transformed a blank, white hallway into a mural of art and inspirational messages. (see attached photos of the youth at work).
The Children's Justice Center works with child victims of abuse and this gift of art from one group of youth to another was especially meaningful. Church youth group leader, Laura Sheppert did an amazing job of bringing local talent together, creating a plan and spending many hours over a weekend with the youth helping them bring their vision to life.
The community is invited to take a tour of the artwork at the center located at 601 West Evergreen Suite 101 in downtown Vancouver.
The Children's Justice Center (CJC) [formerly the Child Abuse Intervention Center (CAIC)] is a nationally accredited Children's Advocacy Center that provides a safe supportive place for child victims of abuse and their non-offending family members. The Center's professional team responds to incidents of possible felony-level child abuse in a fully coordinated manner to more effectively hold perpetrators of child abuse crimes accountable, while taking extra effort to prevent further trauma to the child involved and provide support the non-offending family members. Center staff co-locate from the following public and private agencies: Clark County, City of Vancouver, YWCA Sexual Assault Program, Washington State Department of Children and Family Services and the Children's Center. Over the years, community volunteers have also made a significant difference in the lives of abused children through their volunteer work and supportive contributions.
