- City Recognized for Achievement in Citizen Involvement -

The Beaverton Community Vision project was honored as the "Public Involvement Project of the Year-Best Planning Project" by the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) Cascade Chapter. Beaverton was selected among regional entries throughout Oregon and Washington.

"This honor is quite a treat for Beaverton and for our many terrific volunteers who have been so dedicated," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "It confirms that we are on the right track. We are an open and welcoming community that makes it easy for people to have their voice heard."

An example of the comments Beaverton received from the judging panel included, "A solid undertaking-hard to find any fault with their process at all. Engaging 5,000 people in a city the size of Beaverton is an accomplishment."

"This award is particularly special, because it is awarded by an organization devoted to promoting public involvement and celebrating best practices," said Holly Thompson, program manager responsible for the Beaverton Community Vision project. "To be recognized as innovative and unique among your peers is very meaningful."

Many community organizations have stepped up to endorse the plan and adopt community actions. A complete list of the more than 60 organizations can be found on the project web page at www.BeavertonOregon.gov/Visioning. The organizations are made up of partners from the private sector, public sector and non-profit organizations. The Beaverton Community Vision project recently released a video which can also be found on the website.
