***UPDATE***

Monday, May 9th

The Clark County Medical Examiner has determined the gunshot wound is consistent with a self inflicted injury, and that the manner of death is suicide. The Sheriff's Office investigation into this matter thus far indicates that yesterday afternoon Kara and a friend traveled to rural northeast Clark County near the L1400 and the L1410 roads. Kara and her friend, Ty Takaezu, traveled to a location off of a logging road that is commonly used for recreational target shooting. This area is a lawful area to shoot but is not a commercial shooting range.

The investigation found no indication that the shooters were disobeying any Department of Natural Resources regulations relating to firearms use at the time of this incident. The firearm being used was lawfully owned by Ty who also possesses a Concealed Carry Permit for the weapon. At some point while the two were target shooting it appears Kara intentionally inflicted a gunshot wound to her head. This incident does not appear to be an assault or accidental shooting. Alcohol does not to appear to be a factor in this incident.

Ty immediately called 911 and then continued performing CPR on Kara until deputies and paramedics arrived on scene. Kara was transported by Life Flight to Southwest Washington Medical Center where she was subsequently pronounced dead.

Various ancillary issues for this investigation are still ongoing. However, at this time the Clark County Sheriff's Office investigation is showing no indication that this is anything other than a self inflicted gunshot wound.

There will be nothing further released on this matter at this time.
