The Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division is asking for the public's help to identify and locate the person(s) responsible for the unlawful take and waste of two Tundra Swans in the Burns area last week. The taking of swans at any time is unlawful in Oregon and there are no suspects.
On March 25, 2011, Trooper Andrew McClay responded to the Burns Christian Church at W. Jackson Avenue / South Buena Vista Avenue to investigate the report of two birds illegally dumped in the church garbage cans. McClay identified the birds as Tundra Swans and determined they were shot on or about March 24th with a small caliber firearm. The birds were later dumped by an unknown person(s) in the church garbage cans.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Trooper McClay at (541) 589-0486, or the Turn in Poachers (TIP) hotline at 1-800-452-7888. Information may be reported anonymously.
