GRESHAM, Ore. – Bike fun and safety abounds during the annual Transportation Safety Fair & Bike Rodeo, immediately following the Gresham Teddy Bear Parade, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Gresham Center for the Arts Plaza, Second Street and Hood Avenue in historic downtown.
The event is free and includes main stage musical entertainment, carnival games, bike games and safety, prizes, bike helmets for $5, and food and beverages available for purchase.
Organizers encourage families to ride their bikes to the Teddy Bear Parade. Free and secure valet bicycle parking will be offered starting at from 9 a.m., which allows bicycles to be easily available after the parade for the fun to follow at the bicycle safety fair.
Activities include a series of booths for children and parents to visit and learn basic safety tips along the way. The booths include: What to Wear, City Biking, Danger Zones, Bikes on Buses, Equipment Check Point, Helmet Junction and Finish Line. There will also be an opportunity for children to win prizes by answering questions about what they learned at the booths. In addition to booths, Vince and Larry the Crash Dummies will greet children and be available for picture taking. Sign up at the Finish Line to win a new bike. There will also be an opportunity to take part in "slow" bicycle races; winners will receive a medal and a prize.
City staff will assist with helmet fittings and sell both bicycle and multi-use helmets in toddler through adult for sizes for $5 each while supplies last.
The event is sponsored by the Gresham's Transportation Planning staff and the Gresham Downtown Development Association. For more information contact Jonathan David, 503-618-2321 or visit GreshamOregon.gov/transportation.
