A commercial truck driver was cited by Oregon State Police (OSP) for Careless Driving following a five vehicle serious injury traffic crash Tuesday morning on Highway 224 near Johnson Road in Milwaukie.
On August 31, 2010 at approximately 7:25 a.m. a 2008 Peterbuilt truck pulling semi-trailer driven by JEROME HEIDT, age 64, from Moxee, Washington was eastbound on Highway 224 approaching slowing traffic at the Johnson Road intersection. HEIDT failed to see the slowing traffic and crashed into the back of a black 2001 Honda Civic driven by an adult female in the right eastbound lane. The impact pushed the Honda Civic into the back of a utility trailer towed by a van forcing the van forward into the back of a blue 2010 Toyota Pruis. The Toyota was pushed forward into the back of a blue 1988 Honda Civic.
The adult female in the black Honda Civic was trapped inside her car and extricated by fire personnel from Clackamas Fire District 1. She was transported by ambulance to Oregon Health Sciences University and is reported in serious condition. Her name is not available at this time.
One of the three occupants in the van was taken by a private party to a local hospital with minor injuries. No other persons were injured.
HEIDT was cited by OSP for Careless Driving.
OSP troopers from the Portland Area Command office are completing the investigation. ODOT assisted with traffic control as one lane was getting through in both directions using the westbound lanes.
