On August 25, 2010, Jackson County District Attorney Mark Huddleston sent out a news release announcing that the Jackson County grand jury met to consider the Jackson County Sheriff's Office deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Jackson County on August 11, 2010. The Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Division, with the assistance of the Jackson County Major Crime Team, conducted the investigation that was forwarded to the district attorney's office.
District Attorney Huddleston said that the interagency protocols require that a grand jury make a determination as to whether the officers' use of force was justified under Oregon law. Huddleston said that in this case the grand jury deliberated about five minutes before announcing their decision that the actions of the involved officers in this case were fully justified and in compliance with Oregon law.
