Heritage Band Instructor Arrested for 2cts of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor in the First Degree

On July 31, 2010, Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit of the Clark County Sheriff's Office learned that the parents of a 17 year old female had discovered inappropriate computer communication and cellular phone text messages between their daughter and her 30 year old band teacher.

Detectives learned that the 17 year old female attends public school and is a student of Tyler Benedict. The victim has been a student of Benedict's since her freshman year. The victim disclosed to detectives that her relationship with Benedict became romantic and sexual.

After interviewing Benedict, he confirmed his relationship with the victim had progressed from student-teacher to romantic and sexual.

Based on the above information and Benedict's position as a school employee in a supervisory role, Benedict was arrested for 2 counts of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor in the first degree (RCW: 9A.44.093)


The investigation is still ongoing.
