At the request of the U.S. Forest Service, ODOT will close OR 242, the historic McKenzie Highway, effective 3 a.m., Thursday, August 26. Motorists traveling eastbound on OR 242 from OR 126 will be turned around at milepost 61.8, at the White Branch Youth Compound. Motorists traveling westbound from Sisters will be stopped at the Dee Wright Observatory at approximately milepost 77.2. The highway is being used heavily by firefighters and equipment associated with the Scott Mountain Fire, approximately six miles north of OR 242. Closing the highway to public use will increase safety for the public and the firefighters. UPDATE
