Oregon State Police troopers and ODOT remain on the scene of a Tuesday afternoon crash on Highway 99W at the Highway 18 intersection that led to an estimated over a thousand wine bottles spilling onto the highway. Two drivers were transported with non-life threatening injuries and Highway 99W is closed until the scene and vehicles can be cleared.
Preliminary information indicates on July 27, 2010 at approximately 1:40 p.m. a commercial truck transporting bottles of wine was northbound on Highway 18 attempting to negotiate a turn to northbound Highway 99W when it collided with a southbound commercial truck and overturned. The rear of the trailer split open spilling hundreds of boxes containing wine bottles.
Both drivers whose names are not available were transported to a hospital for treatment of unspecified, non-life threatening injuries.
There is no information available at this time regarding the wine manufacturer, type or where the wine was being transported from and to.
On scene troopers advised ODOT has removed two dump truck loads of broken and damaged wine bottles, and anticipate possibly two more loads will be taken away before the vehicles are cleared and highway re-opened.
OSP and ODOT were also assisted by McMinnville Fire Department and other local emergency responders.
