July 31, 2010 @ 1100

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Search and Rescue teams continue their seventh consecutive day of searching for 57 year old Robert Bissell, in the Roaring River Wilderness of the Mount Hood National Forest. Robert Bissell has been missing since July 13th, 2010.

Today's search effort has again focused on wilderness areas off of the establish trails between the numerous lakes and streams in the area. The weekend and continuing good weather has provided an opportunity for more than seventy volunteers to push through this remote mountain terrain. This area is dangerous and difficult to traverse due to steep rocky terrain and fallen timber. Two search volunteers have suffered minor injuries in the field and were safely returned to base for treatment.

The Search and Rescue certified volunteers in the field today include members of Pacific Crest Search Dogs, Clark County Sheriff Civilian SAR, Silverstar SAR, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Klamath County Sheriff SAR, Benton County Sheriff SAR, Portland Mountain Rescue, Yamhill County Sheriff SAR, and Clackamas County Sheriff SAR. Communications, medical support and logistical support are being provided by Mountain Wave Search and Rescue, AMR Reach and Treat team and the American Red Cross. Also consulting on the search is wilderness survival expert Doctor Terry Schmidt.

We continue to ask anyone who was hiking near the Rock Lakes basin in the Mount Hood National Forest from July 12, 2010 to July 24, 2010 and had personal contact with Mr. Bissell to please contact the Clackamas County Sheriff Tip Line at (503) 723-4949.

The Clackamas County Sheriff in conjunction with the United States Forest Service has closed USFS Rd 4610 north of USFS Rd 58 and has limited access to the Roaring River Wilderness, Rock Lakes Basin, Serene Lake and Shining Lake areas of the Mount Hood National Forest. Access to these areas will remain limited while the active search continues.
