A Sherwood police sergeant received minor injuries shortly after midnight Saturday morning when his patrol vehicle was struck by a passenger car that failed to stop for a stop signal at the intersection of Highway 99W and SW Meinecke Road. At the request of Sherwood Police Department, Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers investigated the crash.

On May 22, 2010 at approximately 12:05 a.m. Sherwood Police Sergeant Jon Carlson, age 44, was on routine patrol operating a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria eastbound on SW Meinecke Road. As Sergeant Carlson entered the Highway 99W intersection on a green light, his patrol car collided with a southbound 1999 Mitsubishi Galant four-door that was traveling about 45 mph and failed to stop for a red stop signal.

Sergeant Carlson received minor injuries and was transported by his department to Meridian Park Hospital for a medical evaluation. He was using safety restraints and his vehicle's airbags deployed.

The Mitsubishi's driver, MADISON A. MONTEMURRO, age 24, from Newberg, and two passengers were not injured. Passengers are identified as CASEY M. MONTEMURRO, age 25, and TERESA SNYDER, age 41, both from Newberg. All were using safety restraints and the car's airbags deployed.

MADISON MONTEMURRO was cited by OSP for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged and towed from the scene.

OSP troopers from the Tualatin and Portland offices were assisted at the scene by Tualatin Police Department and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.

Questions for Sherwood Police Department should be directed to Captain James Reed at (503) 709-7844.
