On February 27th Canby Fire celebrated its years accomplishments at Antonia's Ballroom, located in the historic district of downtown Canby.
The following individuals and groups were recognized for their outstanding contributions:

Officer of the Year – Jim Davis
Jim Davis is both a volunteer firefighter with Canby Fire District and a Battalion Chief with TVF&R. Jim is a stand-out officer both in terms of his broad based knowledge in fire fighting and EMS. He is dedicated to the community he serves as well as his fellow fire fighters. The many he mentors are thankful for his keen leadership skills and the excellent training he provides. Jim was recently recognized by the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association with an Award of Excellence for his specialized training on Rapid Intervention Teams (RIT) and Large Area Search, two critical life saving skills. The experience he brings to Canby Fire from his many years of service is invaluable.

Employee of the Year & Chief's Award – Lori Fawcett
Lori serves as Canby Fire's Administrative Manager. When she was hired in 2008, she took on a position that needed a great deal of over-hauling, innovation, updating, patience and tender loving care. With over 12 years of experience in the Oregon Fire Service and a heart of gold to go with it, Lori was just the person for the job, and then some. Her colleagues have referred to her as "a breath of fresh air", "positive, uplifting and beyond helpful", and "CFD's very own Energizer Bunny". Canby Fire is truly a better place for having Lori on our team.

EMT of the Year – John Footman
John Footman started his career as a paramedic at Canby Fire in 1997 and has been with CFD ever since. John has demonstrated consistent excellence in patient care and has a natural ability to create rapport with his patients, which sets them at ease and helps to make an often times distressing situation far less stressful. One paramedic states, "If one of my family members had a medical emergency, I would want John on that call." He is a quick thinker in stressful situations and provides Canby's citizens with the best of emergency medical care.

Volunteer of the Year – Paul Phillips
Paul joined Canby Fire as a volunteer in 2007. Described as "being here for the right reasons", Paul is a person who is dedicated to community service. He is ever unassuming and kind hearted in his efforts to better Canby Fire and help his fellow man. Paul can often be found working hard behind the scenes and is described as someone who is "always willing to go the extra mile with a strong desire to continually hone his skills." Two words: PAUL CARES.

Firefighter of the Year – Matt Carlson
Having won last year's Volunteer of the Year award, Matt has now moved on to win 2009's Firefighter of the Year. Constant in his willingness to help new recruits learn the ropes, Matt has become known as the go-to guy by many at Canby Fire. He has a reputation for being teachable, available, selfless, and thorough. Last year Matt attended weekly drills, provided extra staffing for Medic 61, worked a full time job, completed his internship and participated in District events, all while earning his Paramedic Degree and maintaining his "willing to do anything" attitude.

Chief's Award – CFD Volunteers

Chief Kunze also made a special presentation to the Canby Volunteer Firefighters, commending them on the dedication and professionalism to the job and the community. In today's world, giving back to your community is difficult, and meeting the standards of being a volunteer firefighters is even more difficult..."Truly Commendable!"
