On 3-18-10 at approx. 1:50 pm, Vancouver Police and Fire were dispatched to a disturbance at 13217 NE 59th Street, #83 reference an assault. When Vancouver Fire arrived, they found 63-year old Delores Medeiros suffering from an open head wound and other facial injuries consistent with being assaulted. 73-year old Ruth Halderman was also treated for injuries to her mouth, sustained when she was punched in the mouth more than once. Deloris was transported to SWWMC where she was treated for her head injury, which was not life threatening.
Vancouver Police learned that 48-year old Randal Halderman, the son of Ruth and Delores, arrived at their residence intoxicated. Ruth offered to drive him home. Randal became upset and cursed at Ruth. Deloris intervened and Randal assaulted her, knocking her to the ground. Randal then punched and kicked at Delores' head and body. When Ruth tried to intervene, Randal punched her twice in the mouth, splitting her lips. Ruth fled to a neighbor to get police assistance.
While Ruth was gone, Randal continued his assault on Deloris. Randal threw an approx. 5 lb glass candle holder at her, striking her in the bed. The impact knocked her to the ground. Randal continued to beat her with his fists, and then tried to use a floor lamp to choke Deloris. Randal's assault eventually caused Deloris to lose consciousness. Randal then left the residence as Ruth was returning with the neighbor.
While police were investigating this incident, another officer had been investigating a 911 call at 8620 NE Mason Drive, #30. The resident there reported a neighbor had assaulted him in his garage without provocation at approx. 1:10 pm. Police were able to identify the assault suspect as Randal Halderman, who lives in the same condominium complex.
At approx. 2:17 pm, police were called to 3207 E 17th Street on a complaint of an unruly, drunk man that was bleeding and refusing to leave the property. Officers from West Precinct responded and identified the person as Randal. No additional crimes were committed at this address.
Randal was taken into custody without incident. The Vancouver Police Domestic Violence Unit was advised. Randal was taken to jail and booked on Domestic Violence Assault IV against Ruth, 2 counts of Domestic Violence Assault II against Delores, Malicious Mischief III, Assault IV and Burglary I for the crimes against 33-year old Jeff Pritchett from Mason Drive. The associated case numbers are V10-5182 and V10-5183.
