The Silverton Fire District responded at approximately 3:30am this morning to a reported house fire located at 5533 Davis Creek Rd NE. This is located in Marion County approximately six miles East of Silverton. When the first unit arrived on scene, it was discovered that the very large residential home was at least 60% involved in heavy fire. An aggressive defensive fire attack was established, however, do to the lack of water in the area, it took over an hour before the fire was brought under control.

The house is just over 2500 square feet in size and suffered considerable fire, smoke, and water damage. Unfortunately, the home is being considered a total loss due to the extensive damage the fire caused.

The lone occupant/home owner was asleep upstairs at the time of the fire and awoke when her dog started barking. She found heavy smoke and fire conditions and was able to escape the house with her dog through an upstairs window. The home owner was not injured while escaping the blaze. The monetary loss of the structure and the contents is very large with an estimated $450,000 in damages being reported.

Fire crews worked efficiently over the next six hours locating and extinguishing "hot spots" throughout what remained of the home. The origin and cause of the fire is currently being investigated by Silverton Fire District Investigators.

The Silverton Fire District responded with 4 fire engines and 4 water tenders on this 3 alarm fire. Drakes Crossing Fire District responded to assist with 1 engine and 1 water tender. Mt. Angel Fire, Marion County Fire District #1, and Sublimity Fire also assisted by supplying one water tender each. Over 32 firefighters were needed to control the fire.

Further information will be provided as investigators attempt to determine the cause of the fire.
