RED CROSS HELPS 18 RESIDENTS IN MULTI-FAMILY FIRE

PORTLAND, Ore. – On December 30, the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to a multi-family fire at the Riverfront Orcadia Hotel in Saint Helens, Oregon. The hotel had 25 units and 18 of them were registered as occupied at the time of the incident.
The Red Cross assisted 18 people and numerous pets from 15 of the occupied rooms. Three remaining families have not yet received assistance, but if they need help they may still contact the Red Cross. The 18 individuals who sought Red Cross support received temporary lodging, food, and other items to meet their immediate and individual needs.
About one dozen disaster volunteers from the Oregon Trail Chapter opened a service center in the Council Chambers of the Saint Helens, City Hall to help the hotel residents during this difficult time. The Oregon Trail Chapter responds to fires 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All disaster assistance is free, made possible by donations from generous Oregonians.

In Oregon, the American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disaster an average of 10 times a week; supplies more than 90 percent of Oregon's blood; teaches thousands of Oregonians lifesaving skills; offers transportation to seniors and the disabled; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
