On 08-05-14 at about 5:00 pm, Deputies from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Department safely subdued a suicidal Milwaukie man who was reported to be armed with a handgun. The man was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
On 08-05-14 at about 5:00 pm, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Department received several reports of a possibly suicidal man in the 7800 block of SE Overland St., a home in the unincorporated area of Milwaukie. The callers indicated the man was armed with a handgun and was intoxicated and that his family was with him, trying to reason with him. The man was identified as 51 year old Scott Doggett, of Milwaukie.
It is believed Mr. Doggett was one of the people who called the police, reporting there was a man down in the street, in an attempt to force a confrontation with police.
As Sheriff's deputies were responding, another caller reported the man had discharged a firearm. A quick records check also revealed Mr. Doggett had an outstanding arrest warrant for the charge of resisting arrest, with caution that he might also be suicidal.
Mr. Doggett left his residence on foot heading toward SE 82nd Ave. Thanks to the coordinated response by Sheriff's deputies, Mr. Doggett was contained by law enforcement personnel. Mr. Doggett refused to comply with deputies' commands, and physically resisted being taken into custody. However, after a short struggle, he was safely brought under control and handcuffed.
Mr. Doggett was transported to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation. Once he is deemed stable by medical professionals, Mr. Doggett will be arrested on his warrant, and charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting arrest will be referred to the District Attorney for review.
