The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Cadet Program partic ipated in the Law Enforcement Challenge (LEC) between July 31st and August 3, 2014. The competition was held at the Oregon National Guard Base, Camp Rilea in Warrenton, OR. This year's competition attracted cadets from 14 different law enforcement agencies from across Oregon and Washington.
This competition places young men and women in realistic scenarios that test their knowledge and ability in areas of law, search and seizure, tactics, officer safety, report writing, driving, department policies, physical ability and decision making.
Cadets compete in various events that simulate situations law enforcement officers deal with on a daily basis and situations officers deal with only in extreme circumstances. The events range from traffic stops to active shooter scenarios. The events are supervised and critiqued by full-time law enforcement officers who are often experts in that particular discipline.
This year Clackamas County Cadets earned the First Place "Overall" award and the First Place "Officer Safety" award along with many other individual and team awards. Four years in a row this group has earned top honors at the Law Enforcement Challenge.
The cadet program at Clackamas County is a volunteer program for young men and women between 15-21 years-of-age who are interested in careers in law enforcement. Cadets participate in ride-alongs with deputies, train for events like this and volunteer thousands of hours doing community service across Clackamas County every year. The cadets have several fundraisers to raise donations in order to pay for their equipment and these types of competitions.
