ENTER TO WIN BEAVERTON'S CELEBRATION PARADE THEME CONTEST

Beaverton residents are invited to submit ideas for the 2013 Beaverton Celebration Parade theme by Friday, May 31 at 5 p.m. The winner of the selected theme will win a prize package, including a 'celebrity' ride in the 56th annual parade on Saturday, Sept. 7.

"This is a great opportunity for all residents to share their perspective of our vibrant city," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "Over the past years, each theme has truly captured the uniqueness of Beaverton--this year will be no different."

* Or drop it off in person at the Mayor's Office, located at City Hall (4755 SW Griffith Dr., Beaverton, Or) on the third floor

The winner of the contest will be notified the second week of June. There is a limit of two entries per Beaverton household. Entries must include your name and street address. The Beaverton Celebration Parade began in 1957 and has grown into a citywide tradition. This year's parade is Saturday, Sept. 7 beginning at 10 a.m. Previous parade themes include: Everything is Golden, Community Pride...City Wide, Dancing in the Streets, A Vision of the Future, and The Many Faces of our City.

In 2013, Beaverton was again recognized as the safest city in Oregon. Since 2007, Beaverton has been named one of the safest cities in the Northwest. In 2012, the city was awarded the Mayors' Climate Protection Award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors. It was one of just four cities of its size recently recognized as a "Smarter City" energy leader by the Natural Resources Defense Council and one of the 100 Best Places to Live in America by Money magazine.
