SHERIFF PAT GARRETT INVITES COMMUNITY FEEDBACK
Posted: April 29th, 2013 6:23 PM

April 29, 2013 -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office will be assessed by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) next week. A team of inspectors will arrive on Monday, May 6, to review all aspects of Sheriff's Office operations in light of national standards considered priorities for large law enforcement agencies. The inspection will end on Thursday, May 9, and the public has several opportunities to give input to the inspection team on Sheriff's Office services.

The Sheriff's Office was initially awarded accreditation in 2004 by CALEA in an effort to improve management systems and show good stewardship. Accreditation has helped the Sheriff's Office to clarify every written directive, and to build a set of management systems that flexes and endures with constant growth and change. The Sheriff's Office is inspected every three years by a different inspection team; this is our third reaccreditation process.

The inspection process has included an extensive review of policies, training documents and reports, interviews with staff, contacts with community members, and observing operations by riding with patrol deputies, and even observing complex crime scene investigations. Another benefit of accreditation is learning more about how our services are perceived by the citizens we serve, and we want to hear from you.

Community members can help the inspection team evaluate community partnerships, staff interactions with citizens, and quality of service delivery. Toward that end, Sheriff Pat Garrett is offering citizens four ways to share information with the inspection team between now and the end of the inspection on May 9.

*Beginning today, any citizen can e-mail the inspection team using the link provided on the Sheriff's website: www.WCSheriff-OR.com. The same link is available from the Sheriff's Facebook page.

*Beginning today, letters can be addressed to the inspection team as follows:

Washington County Sheriff's Office
Attention CALEA Assessment Team
215 SW Adams Avenue, MS-32
Hillsboro, OR 97123

*On Monday, May 6, beginning at 5:30 pm, the public can attend a hearing in the Charles Cameron Memorial Auditorium, in the Public Services Building at 155 North First Avenue, Hillsboro, Oregon. Those who wish to speak will be allowed the customary three minutes to comment on standards compliance.

*On Tuesday, May 7, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, you may call (503) 891-2007 and share comments by telephone. (The line will otherwise be inoperable.)

All letters and e-mails will be delivered directly to the inspection team during their visit.

Sheriff Garrett and the men and women of the Washington County Sheriff's Office thank you for your interest in the agency's reaccreditation. It is an honor for us to serve the citizens of Washington County, and always our goal to provide the reliable, competent and professional services you deserve.
