PORTLAND MAN ARRESTED FOR DUII AFTER 101 MILE PER HOUR TRIP THROUGH WEST LINN
Posted: April 30th, 2013 11:14 AM
On Monday April 29, 2013 at about 11:09 PM West Linn Police Officer Tommy Newberry was conducting speed enforcement on I-205 northbound at the Willamette Falls Viewpoint. Officer Newberry clocked a motorist at 101 mph and gave chase. While overtaking the vehicle Officer Newberry observed the car driving erratically through traffic and eventually stopped the car on I-205 near Highway 213.
Upon contacting the driver, Petr Zimin of Portland, Officer Newberry noted indications that the driver was impaired. With the assistance of West Linn Police Officer Larry Redler, a DUII investigation was conducted and Mr. Zimin was subsequently arrested for DUII and lodged at the Clackamas County Jail. A breath test revealed that Mr. Zimin's blood alcohol content was .11. The legal limit in Oregon is .08. Mr. Zimin was charged with DUII and Reckless Driving.
Officers have noticed an increase of speeds on I-205 through West Linn. In February officers investigated a crash on I-205 southbound near Highway 43 that resulted in the death of a 37 year old Tigard Resident. Speed and alcohol directly contributed to this tragic fatality.
The West Linn Police Department has been conducting enhanced DUII patrols with the assistance of a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation. So far this year, the West Linn Police Department has arrested 28 motorists for Driving Under the Influence. This is up nearly 17 percent over year to date 2012.
Please remember buzzed driving is drunk driving. Get a designated driver, host responsibly and if you see an impaired driver call 911 with the vehicle description, license plate and direction of travel. Help us bring the Heat on summer DUII's.
