An alert minded neighbor called 911 to report the house across the street was on fire, then selflessly assisted an elderly neighbor to safety. Firefighters responded to 812 Jefferson Street in historic Oregon City at 5:30 p.m. and quickly contained the minor blaze to the front living room and it's contents. The 87 year old homeowner was transported to the burn center at Emmanuel for minor smoke inhalation, and cursory burns to his hands and face estimated at 4% of his body. Preliminary investigations show the fire was electrical in nature, and damage to the two story historic structure relatively minimal at $15,000.
As we count our blessings tonight, three come to mind in Oregon City: Working smoke alarms, helpful neighbors, and a strong fire department. Together, this team will make any community safer.
