DEATH INVESTIGATION AT INTERSTATE MEAT DISTRIBUTORS IN CLACKAMAS
Posted: April 29th, 2013 5:28 PM
On April 27, 2013 at approximately 11:45 pm deputies from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to Interstate Meat Distributors at 9550 SE Last Road, Clackamas, Oregon to conduct a death investigation.
The death appears to be the result of a tragic industrial accident. Interstate Meat Distributors is a meat packaging company which contracts with DCS Sanitation Management for cleaning services. Several contract workers from DCS were on-site cleaning the facility and equipment.
It appears one of the contract employees may have fallen into a large meat grinder that was in operation. Another worker realized something was wrong and activated an emergency switch which stopped the equipment. Unfortunately the worker was already deceased. The Clackamas County Fire Department responded and confirmed the worker was dead.
At this point the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is assisting the Medical Examiner's Office with this investigation. All parties involved are cooperating with investigators. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration were notified of this incident as a standard procedure. The name of the deceased will not be released at this time. Questions regarding the deceased or this investigation will be referred to the Medical Examiner's Office.
