Two people were injured, one seriously, in an ice related collision involving a school bus and a car earlier this morning near Molalla.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sr. Trooper Dan Swift, a 2001 Volkswagen Passat was westbound on SR 211 west of Vaughan Road about 6:30 AM when it encountered some black ice and slid into the on coming traffic lane. The Volkswagen collided with a full sized school bus being operated by First Students under contract with the Molalla School District. The school bus had just started it's route and there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the collision.
The driver of the Volkswagen, Alexandra Vanderpool, 19, from Oregon City, was transported by Life Flight helicopter to Emmanuel Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the school bus, Lori Koos, 57, of Molalla, was taken by car to Willamette Falls hospital where she was treated and released. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and the airbags on the Volkswagen deployed.
Road conditions throughout south Clackamas County were very slick due to icy conditions this morning. No citations were issued. OSP was assisted at the scene by Molalla Fire, Molalla Police, Clackamas County Sheriff, and ODOT. The road was completely open by 7:45.
