Last night at about 11:30 pm, police were called because there was a beaver walking across McLoughlin Boulevard, at 14th Street, away from the river. The beaver had made it through traffic, appeared to be lost and was walking towards headlights every time it saw them.

Typically, beavers are not the friendliest creatures and are not that easy to corral. Our officer tried using a pole/noose to catch the beaver, but quickly figured out the easiest way to get the beaver to water was by simply herding it to Abernathy Creek. It was a long walk that took several officers about 40 minutes, but there really was no better option. The beaver turned out to be pretty mellow, as you can see in the video.

Once near the creek, the beaver scuttled down the bank, into the water and swam off.

This scene drew a lot of attention from onlookers.

I have attached the video, which is priceless. It is saved as a Quicktime file, from a cell phone. If it does not post, I can email it to you.
