GRESHAM, Ore. - Gresham Mayor Shane T. Bemis will deliver his annual State of the City Address this Tuesday, March 12.
The speech, considered one of Gresham's signature civic events, begins at 7 p.m. in the Mt. Hood Community College Theater, 26000 S.E. Stark St., before an audience of Gresham City Councilors, invited dignitaries, community leaders and residents. The college is a new location for the speech this year.
In this year's address, Mayor Bemis will ask community members to join him in an effort to map out the amenities that Gresham should invest in to build on the economic and civic momentum he's already seeing in the community. He plans to immediately begin convening a group of interested partners for this focused community discussion.
"If you want to be part of an effort to grab hold of the momentum we are seeing and the positive spirit we have in Gresham, we want you on the team," the Mayor says in the speech. "...Optimists make investments, and those investments should lead us as we set about assessing the state of our fine city."
The event is open to the general public, including a pre-address reception beginning at 6 p.m.
MetroEast Community Media will videotape the event and a speech transcript will be posted at GreshamOregon.gov.
