Gresham, Ore –Two men who don't know each other teamed up to stop an attack by a third man on a mother and daughter in the women's apartment. The attacker is in critical condition after falling unconscious due to unknown reasons.

The incident began on February 4, 2012 at about 3:30 p.m. when Michael Lieberman, who lives at the apartment complex at 1212 NE Linden heard a woman yelling from another unit and he responded to help. In the meantime, Chauncey Brown, 29, of Gresham who happened to be near the apartments also heard the same yelling. He too came to help.

When they arrived at the apartment where Tonja M Valderas, 40, lives with her daughter Meridith M Schroeder,12, Brown and Lieberman encountered a man attacking both women. Brown and Lieberman subdued the attacker, who lost consciousness during the struggle. Police arrived and summoned medical personnel and the attacker was taken to Mt. Hood Medical where he remains in critical condition. His identity remains unknown to any of the persons involved and police have not been able to identify him as of yet.

The mother and daughter told police that they happened to be walking out of their apartment, when they encountered the attacker. He forced his way in, pushing both women inside saying he was going to kill them. He initially assaulted them, but then ransacked the apartment, at which time Valderas was able to call 9-1-1. He suddenly turned his attack on both women, at which time they yelled for help and Lieberman and Brown intervened.
The attacker is a white male, approximately 30 years old, with a medium build. He was unshaven, has brown hair, brown eyes and no teeth. He has two ear piercings in his left ear and several tattoos: an eagle head on the upper right arm; a sun with a face on his right arm; a Bengal tiger on the upper right arm; a fish inside a design on his right calf; a scarab on his inside right ankle. He was wearing black jeans, a gray tank top, an olive green sweater and he was barefoot.

Anybody with information as to the identity of this man is asked to call Detective Kyle Lewis at 503.618.3151.

NOTE—I have inquired with all parties involved and all have indicated that they do not wish to talk with media.
