Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Tuesday afternoon's two vehicle critical injury traffic crash on Highway 26 about one mile east of Gresham in which the occupant(s) of the offending vehicle fled on foot and have not been identified or found. OSP is asking for any witnesses to the crash or saw the van's occupant(s) fleeing the scene who have not spoken with police to contact their department at (503) 731-3030.

On February 7, 2012 at approximately 4:40 p.m. a Ford van was westbound on Highway 26 near milepost 18 when it drifted into the center grass median. The van's driver over-corrected, traveling back into the westbound lanes were it crashed into the driver's side of a 2009 BMW sport utility vehicle. The van then continued west, across the center median where it rolled and came to rest upright across both eastbound lanes.

A witness told arriving officers that at least one person got out of the van and fled on foot. Other information developed indicates possibly four males fled. The van's occupant(s) have not been identified or located. A canine track led officers west toward Stone Road.

The other vehicle's driver, a 52-year old man, was seriously injured and transported by LifeFlight to Oregon Health & Sciences University. He is reported now in critical condition. His name will be released Wednesday. He was using safety restraints and his vehicle's airbags deployed.

OSP troopers from the Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation at the scene. One lane remains closed at this time with the help of ODOT.

OSP is being assisted by Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. Boring Fire Department and AMR ambulance assisted at the scene.

Lead investigator is Senior Trooper Diane Roper.
