The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is hosting a press briefing Monday, February 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. regarding an armed serial bank robber. The press briefing will be held at the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Brooks Building, 9101 SE Sunnybrook Boulevard, Clackamas, OR 97015.

This serial bank robber robbed a bank in Eugene, Oregon in December 2011 and another in January 2012 in Happy Valley, Oregon. In both occasions the suspect displayed firearms and conducted violent takeover-style robberies.

The press briefing will be attended by representatives from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, the Eugene Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Oregon Financial Institutions Security Taskforce (FIST).

*** VIDEO - Investigators will preview and then disseminate copies of surveillance video of the two robberies.

*** EVIDENCE - Investigators will present two bicycles for viewing. The bicycles were used by the suspect and recovered near the robberies.

*** SUMMARY ***

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, the Eugene Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are asking for help in identifying a violent armed robbery suspect.

On December 15, 2011, a white male armed with a snub-nosed, blued revolver entered the Home Federal Credit Union, located at 25 Division Street in Eugene, Oregon. The suspect conducted a violent, takeover-style robbery of the bank and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. This robbery was investigated by the Eugene Police Department and the FBI.

On January 26, 2012, the same suspect entered Chase Bank, located at 12400 Southeast Sunnyside Road in Clackamas, Oregon. During this robbery, the suspect was armed with two handguns: a snub-nosed, blued revolver and a large silver revolver. The suspect again conducted a violent, takeover-style robbery and fled the area with an undisclosed amount of money. This robbery was investigated by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Portland FBI with assistance from the Happy Valley Police and the Portland Police Bureau.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5'08" – 6''00" tall, with a medium to heavy build, wearing blue coverall type pants, a blue coat, black mask, and black gloves.

In both robberies the suspect left the bank on a bicycle that was abandoned a short distance from the scene. Investigators need help to identify where these bicycles were acquired.

The source of each bicycle is unknown. The bicycles may have been stolen or given away. They could have been purchased from Craigslist or want ads. The investigators in these cases are asking for people to look at the bicycles carefully to see if they recognize those bikes and can help to apprehend this offender.

We are also asking for people to look at the video that is being released of the Clackamas robbery. This crime is clearly very traumatic. However, someone may recognize the clothing, gait or other characteristics of the suspect's behavior.

Finally, the President of the Oregon Financial Institutions Security Taskforce (FIST), Mr. Ken Austin of the Bank of America, is present to discuss that they are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction the suspect. FIST is a cooperative effort made up of representatives from banks, savings and loans, and credit unions, as well as representatives from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The purpose of FIST is to help reduce crimes committed against financial institutions to make their staff and customers safer.

TIPS SOGHT

We are asking that tips be referred to the Portland Office of the FBI at 503-224-4181.
