WELCHES SHELTER TRANSITIONS TO SERVICE CENTER
Posted: January 20th, 2011 3:50 PM
With no overnight guests last night and no anticipated needs for tonight, the Red Cross is transitioning the Welches shelter to a service delivery site. The service delivery site will continue to be located at:
Camp Arrah Wanna
24075 E Arrah Wanna
Welches, OR
The service delivery site will close at 6 p.m., but will re-open tomorrow morning. Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. At the site, Red Cross volunteers will work with families on a case-by-case basis to meet their immediate disaster-caused needs, including food and clothing.
Additionally, a Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) will be stationed at the Lolo Pass Trailhead, providing meals, snacks and beverages to affected residents and emergency workers. The ERV is also a distribution point for supplies including batteries, gallon jugs of water, comfort kits (toothpaste, shampoo and essentials), and clean-up supplies (mops, brooms, buckets). Tonight, dinner will be served from the ERV from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
To date, the Oregon Trail Chapter has provided assistance to 14 families and has provided one overnight stay (Tuesday night). The chapter has also served 130 meals and 45 snacks to affected residents and emergency workers.
The Red Cross does not expect to operate over the weekend, but clients in need of assistance can call the Oregon Trail Chapter at 503-284-1234.

###
In Oregon, the American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disaster every 20 hours; supplies more than 90 percent of Oregon's blood; teaches thousands of Oregonians lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
