On January 18, 2011, the Clark County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in NE Clark County for the report of a disturbance. Based on information from the incident, the decision was made to have members of the SW Washington Regional SWAT Team also respond. As law enforcement personnel were searching the wooded area near the property, in an attempt to locate the resident, they found him deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Clark County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation.
The resident was off duty Vancouver Police Officer Douglas Deaver. The Vancouver Police Department is greatly saddened by his death.
Officer Deaver, 46, worked for the Dallas Texas Police Department for 10 years before being hired by the Vancouver Police Department in October 2000.
Chief Clifford Cook said, "Officer Deaver was well liked, hard working and was highly regarded by his peers and members of our community and he will be greatly missed."
There is no information at this time regarding final arrangements.
