The City of Estacada had been plagued for months with reports of thefts from vehicles. As these theft reports continued to skyrocket, investigators ramped up their efforts -- resulting in the arrest last week of one subject believed responsible for a number of thefts from vehicles in the Estacada area.
On Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, Clackamas County Inter-agency Task Force (CCITF) investigators -- assisting Estacada Police -- arrested Dustin Wood, 21, on charges of Theft and Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle. Wood was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on these two charges, and has since been released. He is scheduled to next appear in court on these charges on Nov. 24, 2010 at 3 p.m.
Estacada Police Deputy Hollis, who is assigned to patrol the City of Estacada, requested that CCITF investigators work directly with him to pursue additional leads.
During the course of this criminal investigation, Deputy Hollis resourcefully obtained additional leads that led him to a residence located at 19909 SE Sherman Cooper Road in Eagle Creek.
On Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 at 1 p.m., a search was executed at this residence by Estacada Police Deputy Hollis and CCITF team members.
Upon first arriving at this rural residence, investigators witnessed a person of interest fleeing out the back door. This person was soon apprehended without incident and identified as Danny James Woodward, age 20, a declared transient.
Danny James Woodward was arrested and lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on the following charges:
• Theft
• Possession of a Controlled Substance -- Heroin
• A probation detainer warrant obtained for probation violation.
Danny Woodward is scheduled to be arraigned on these criminal matters on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at 3 p.m. in Clackamas County Circuit Court.
Two of the occupants at this address are identified as Robert Sherman, 49, and Lola Denham, 43. They were described by investigators as cooperative and assisted authorities with the extensive search of the premises.
In addition, a person identified as Karen Kaye Chase, 49, was also discovered inside this home during the search. Chase was arrested and lodged on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance -- Meth.
Karen Chase is scheduled to appear on this criminal matter for her scheduled arraignment on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at 3 p.m. in Clackamas County Circuit Court.
During the search, investigators also reportedly discovered and retained the following evidence:
• Over one ounce of methamphetamine
• Suspected drug records and customer account information
• Scales
• Packaging materials
• Methamphetamine pipes
• Believed stolen Oxycodone -- reportedly received in exchange for methamphetamine.
• In addition, an iPod was recovered and retained as evidence as a suspected stolen item.
When CCITF and Estacada Police arrived to search this Eagle Creek address, investigators also located several other people inside the residence. Each individual was interviewed and identified, and subsequent investigative information was forwarded to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office for review and consideration of criminal charges.
Additional people discovered inside the residence are identified as follows:
• Rebecka Laree Cox, 21 (daughter of Lola Denham), will have information forwarded to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office concerning Possession of a Controlled Substance -- Marijuana, and Possession of a Controlled Substance in the form of Methamphetamine. Cox also resides at this address (with her mother) on SE Sherman Cooper Road in Eagle Creek.
• While investigators were conducting their investigation at this Eagle Creek address, an unsuspecting Timothy C. Spargur, 47, arrived at the residence and was greeted by investigators. Consequently, Timothy Spargur was found in possession of methamphetamine and a meth pipe in his pocket. This information concerning Timothy Spargur will also be forwarded to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office for consideration of criminal charges.
CCITF supervising Sgt. Scott Anderson credits Deputy Hollis as the driving force behind this successful investigative effort. Sgt. Anderson reports that Deputy Hollis was instrumental in securing a previous search warrant and the arrest warrants issued for both Dustin Lee Wood and Danny Woodward.
Sgt. Anderson went on to describe how these arrests should help to explain the motivating factors behind the many thefts occurring from automobiles in Estacada. Both Danny Woodward and Dustin Wood are believed to have been stealing to support their methamphetamine habits -- with the drugs being supplied from the Sherman Cooper Road address.
Sgt. Anderson added: "Hopefully the fine citizens of Estacada will get a break from car clouts now that both Dustin Wood and Danny Woodward have been apprehended."
Investigators also report that Lola Denham had previously posted a note on her door for all drug customers to read. You can read the note online here. It appears from this remarkably brazen document's wording that Lola operates a cash-on-delivery (COD) type of business -- and was no longer extending credit to any would-be drug customers. [END]
