MINOR INJURY PEDESTRIAN-INVOLVED CRASH INVOLVING OSP PATROL CAR LEADS TO ARREST OF MAN IN BEND

A Salem-area man was arrested by Bend police early Saturday morning after he received a minor injury when an Oregon State Police trooper's patrol car mirror hit the man while he was attempting to cross an unlit road.
According to OSP Sergeant David MacKenzie, on January 22, 2011 at approximately 3:15 a.m. Trooper Josh Nagle was patrolling in the Bend area. While driving on 3rd Street near Penn Street, an intoxicated male pedestrian dressed only in shorts was attempting to walk across the unlit northbound lanes at was struck by the trooper's passenger side mirror on the patrol car.
The man, later identified as DELBERT HANDSAKER, age 27, from Salem, continued to walk from the scene until Nagle was able to stop him to check on his condition.
Bend Fire Department responded and treated and released HANDSAKER for minor cuts. He was not taken to a hospital.
At OSP's request, Bend Police Department investigated the incident and subsequently arrested HANDSAKER for Disorderly Conduct and on an outstanding arrest warrant. The warrant's charge is not available for this release. He was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail.
