Mayor Denny Doyle will unveil the Civic Plan and documentary that highlights three strategy documents, Housing & Neighborhoods, Land Use & Transportation and the Central City, on Monday January 24 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Beaverton City Hall's First Floor Conference Room (4755 SW Griffith Drive).
The first two documents contain citywide strategies and action items, while the third strategy focuses on transforming Beaverton's downtown. The preview will also provide a look into the Civic Strategy Rollout presentation and will screen clips from the Central City Documentary.
The Civic Plan team will unveil the plan on Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Beaverton City Library Auditorium (12375 SW 5th Street). Highlights include strategies for:
• Improvements to Canyon Road featuring new, pedestrian-friendly crossings, new guidelines for sidewalks, more regular traffic signal spacing, and safer intersections.
• Enhancements to Beaverton's creeks including providing pathways and park space, bringing existing creeks to the surface, and orienting existing and new developments toward them.
• Creating opportunities for the development of housing to appeal to everyone from singles and young couples to families and seniors by planning for the appropriate housing types in suitable locations and by matching emerging market demand with future housing mix.
The event provides an opportunity for the media to preview the presentation and documentary, ask questions of the Civic Plan team, and obtain press kits and media clips.
ABOUT THE CIVIC PLAN
During the past several months, the city has conducted a series of technical studies looking at the factors that will influence what Beaverton can achieve and how to go about doing it. They include data on Beaverton demographics, housing and economic opportunities. Teams of City staff, consultants, and a citizen led Steering Committee have used that data to create a set of transformative actions within three overall strategies. To help organize the Civic Plan, the discussions are focused on six core topic areas: Natural Systems & Cultural Resources; Central District Development & Revitalization; Housing & Neighborhoods; Public Safety, Services & Governance; Land Use & Transportation; and Economic Development. The community's commitment to sustainability is being woven throughout the strategies.
