- Officials from Peterkort announce plans to join City of Beaverton -

Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle announced today that the City has received annexation petitions from J. Peterkort and Company. The voluntary annexation is for four of their parcels, a total of 51.17 acres, located north of Barnes Road.

The Mayor believes the City is becoming better known for its increased levels of services available, its business-friendly environment, and its developer-friendly permitting process.

"Bringing the Peterkort properties into our community is an indication of our staff's hard work and dedication in building effective relationships and partnering with area land and business owners," said Doyle. "We're doing things differently in an effort to help businesses—it's working."

City staff and Peterkort representatives have been working together for the past two years to reach an agreement on this voluntary annexation and how to apply Washington County planning requirements to the City's codes.

According to Steven Sparks, principal planner in the City's Community Development Department, "The Washington County Community Plan for the area specifies a total required amount of development to occur on the Peterkort properties in the vicinity of the Sunset Station light rail stop.

Sparks added, "By having all Peterkort parcels be subject to a single set of development standards and eliminating a bifurcated review process, a logical and uniform review of a future development master plan will be possible."

Scott Eaton, representing J. Peterkort and Company, believes the plan has merit.

"Bringing the four parcels into the City makes sense for us as we move forward with the development of the Peterkort Station Master Plan," said Eaton. "Most of the land for which the master plan will be prepared is already in Beaverton. This voluntary annexation will make the master plan process easier to understand for everyone."

The voluntary annexation is the first step of many that will take place over the next several months for future potential development of J. Peterkort and Company properties. The next step includes public hearings on applying City land use and zoning designations on the properties. Once that process is complete, the J. Peterkort and Company will likely submit a master plan for development of their properties.

"I'm very pleased that this local owner, with a long and successful project history, has requested to bring more of their property into the City," said Mayor Doyle. "It demonstrates their confidence in our commitment to provide excellent urban services to the community we serve."

The voluntary annexation ordinance will be considered by the Beaverton City Council at their Tuesday, February 8 meeting.
