Sisters Evacuation Shelter Open Today

News Release from: American Red Cross - Oregon Trail Chapter
SISTERS EVACUATION SHELTER OPEN TODAY
Posted: August 3rd, 2010 10:05 AM

The evacuation shelter opened last night as a result of the Rooster Rock wildfire will remain open today and possibly tonight, if needed. The shelter is located at Sisters Elementary School, 611 E. Cascade, and operated by the Oregon Mountain River Chapter of the American Red Cross.

While there were no overnight guests, local residents have stopped by the shelter for snacks, information and conversation. The decision to remain in operation is due to the nature of the fire and the high temperatures expected today.

Thanks to a partnership with the Pet Emergency Team, the Red Cross shelter has portable kennels on-site to house small animals. Those with livestock concerns should call the Pet Emergency Team at 541-610-6628.

###

In Oregon, the American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disaster an average of 10 times a week; supplies more than 90 percent of Oregon's blood; teaches thousands of Oregonians lifesaving skills; offers transportation to seniors and the disabled; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
