Gresham, Ore - Gresham Mayor Shane Bemis, in partnership the Gresham Barlow School District and the Oregon Mayors' Association, invites students to imagine what they would do if they were Mayor of the fourth largest city in Oregon. The "If I were Mayor, I would…" the contest is open to students in grades 4 through 12 or who are home schooled in these grades.

"The voice of our young people in Gresham is the voice of our future," said Mayor Shane Bemis. "I am very excited to see their fresh, creative ideas for our city."

Students in grades four through six are asked to develop a poster, middle school students are asked to write an essay, and high school students can produce a one minute video or a PowerPoint presentation.

The contest is conducted annually by the Oregon Mayors Association, and held in participating cities. Winners of the local competition in each category will receive a prize, and have their entries forwarded to the statewide competition, where they could win a laptop computer.
Contest entries are due by May 28 and must be accompanies by an entry form.

Full contest rules and entry forms are available at www.greshamoregon.gov/contest.
