Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Friday morning's serious injury crash involving a passenger car and a commercial truck on Highway 213 at S. Carus Road south of Oregon City. The highway is closed while ODOT coordinates removal of involved vehicles and hazardous material responders finish cleaning up approximately 200 gallons of diesel spilled from the commercial truck's diesel tanks.
On January 11, 2013 at approximately 7:53 a.m., a 1998 Toyota Camry four-door driven by MICHAEL JASON WARN, age 25, from Taft, Oregon, was northbound on Highway 213 near milepost 7 when it crossed the centerline and collided into the driver side of a southbound 2008 Freightliner truck pulling a semi-trailer loaded with hazardous chemicals. After impact, the Toyota came to rest on its wheels in northbound side ditch and the truck and trailer came to rest partially blocking the highway.
WARN was extricated by Clackamas Fire District #1 firefighters and transported by ambulance to Oregon Health & Science University with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Safety restraint use is pending confirmation.
The commercial truck's driver, TROY L. HUSTON, age 45, from Vancouver, Washington, was not injured. He was using safety restraints.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, and Clackamas Fire District #1. Trooper Scott Kinch is the lead investigator and enforcement action is pending. Icy road conditions are not believed to have been a factor.
