Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers arrested a man Friday in a remote wooded area near the Clatsop/Columbia County line who was wanted for multiple sex crimes out of Grant County, Oregon.
On January 11, 2013 at approximately 2:30 p.m., OSP Fish & Wildlife Division Trooper Joseph Warwick and Trooper Dave Herman responded to a suspicious vehicle and person complaint in the Birkenfield-area along Burn Road where they found an unoccupied van stuck in mud and a bicycle track leading away from the road. The troopers followed the bicycle track about 3 miles to the end of the trail where they found a man trying to conceal himself in thick brush about an hour later.
The man was uncooperative but eventually came out from the brush. He initially provided a false name but later said he may be wanted for an unpaid ticket. After providing his real name, CASEY JAMES WOOD, age 28, the troopers confirmed WOOD was wanted based upon an investigation by Grant County Sheriff's Office for Rape in the Second Degree (2 counts), Sodomy in the Second Degree (2 counts), and Sex Abuse in the First Degree (3 counts). An agitated WOOD was taken into custody by the troopers and lodged in the Clatsop County Jail.
He has been transferred back to Grant County where he is being held pending an appearance in Grant County Circuit Court.
Questions regarding the case should be directed to the Grant County District Attorney's Office.
