OREGON CITY POLICE CITE MAN FOR PULLING A GUN DURING AN ARGUMENT

First: I think this story has relevance today, because people are buying guns in droves right now, in light of recent events locally and nationally. They are also getting concealed weapons permits. This is an example of what can go wrong when people think without acting; a gun is not a problem solver. It can be an effective tool, but only with a lot of critical thought and training before application.

On January 7, 2013, at 10:45 pm, Oregon City Police Officers were dispatched to the Tee Time Bar and Grill, at 19197 Molalla Avenue, in Oregon City. Outside a bar, two different parties ended up in an argument after a woman asked a man if he could move his vehicle, so they could back out of their parking spot. There were two arguments, over a short while, in the parking lot. During the second altercation, there was some pushing and shoving.

Eventually, witnesses said one of the involved males pulled a handgun and pointed it at another male. All of the subjects involved appear to have been drinking. The suspect eventually got into his vehicle and drove away.

Police tracked down the suspect, who had driven home. They seized a handgun and his concealed weapons permit. Mark M. Jacobson (dob: 09-07-62) was cited for Menacing. He resides in Oregon City at 19438 Silver Fox Parkway.

Mr. Jacobson told police that if he had the whole thing to do over again, he would have just driven away.

His court date is 2/4/13, at 3 pm, at the Clackamas County Courthouse.

Nothing in the police reports suggest that deadly force would have been remotely justified in this incident. You cannot bring a gun to a fight or an argument, it is not legal. Making such decisions after drinking alcohol will most likely not produce good results.
