CLARK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE EXPLORER POST #893 EARN AWARDS
Posted: January 3rd, 2013 4:19 PM

Six dedicated Clark County Sheriff's Office Explorers from post #893 attended the basic academy from Dec 26th-31st at the Yakima Firing Center in Yakima. The Washington Law Enforcement Explorer Advisors (WLEEA)operates a week-long Explorer Academy twice a year. The Academy is a full-time training environment that mirrors the atmosphere at the real law enforcement Academy. Advisors and Instructors from all around Washington State come together to provide top-notch instruction and training.
During the week of training, Explorers experience aspects of police work firsthand. Classroom time and practical application of skills are combined to provide a challenging and fun week. Additionally Explorers are taught drill and ceremony and are physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged throughout the week.
This is Clark County's first time participating in this academy in several years. All rose to the challenge and sacrificed their winter break to attend this academy.
In addition to tested classroom academics, Explorers also went to the firing range, and completed a physical agility test.
These explorers braved the unknown of having never previously attended an academy and brought home honors such as drill down competition winner, 2nd place female in the physical agility test, 3rd place male in the physical agility test, and 3rd place overall for males.
The Explorers who attended were: Cody Alexander (Ridgefield HS), Emily Laurent (Mountain View HS), Jacinda Rose (Skyview HS), Joe Siegel (Ridgefield HS), Marissa Stevens (River Homelink), and George Turkov (WSUV).
The Explorer Program is designed to give students ages 15.5 to 21 an opportunity to observe the criminal justice system and assist them in making an informed career decision. Explorers provide non-enforcement assistance to the Sheriff's Office and serve their community through a wide variety of functions.
