Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife troopers from the Central Point Area Command office are asking for the public's help to solve a poaching case that occurred over the weekend near Trail in northern Jackson County. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this investigation. The reward is comprised of $250 from the Oregon Hunters Association Turn-In-Poachers (TIP) program and $2,500 from the Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust.

According to Sergeant Kirk Meyer, on December 8, 2012 OSP troopers responded to a call of an unlawfully killed 4x4 buck deer found in a resident's yard near milepost 1 off Crowfoot Road east of Trail. The buck had a single gunshot wound to its side. Several area residents reported hearing several gunshots about 3:00 a.m. early Saturday. OSP received the call about 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning and subsequently determined after getting on scene that the meat was not salvageable.

While investigating, OSP learned of another 2x2 buck that was wounded in the pasture next to where the 4x4 buck was found. The responding trooper had to put the deer down due to the nature of its injury. The second deer's meat was salvaged and taken to a butcher shop in Eagle Point to be donated to area food banks.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Turn-In-Poachers TIP line at 1-800-452-7888 or contact Senior Trooper Jim Collom at (541) 618-7997.
