Fatal Traffic Crash - Interstate 84 east of Stanfield

FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - INTERSTATE 84 EAST OF STANFIELD

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Sunday morning's single vehicle traffic crash along Interstate 84 east of Stanfield that resulted in the death of one person and non-life threatening injuries to the pickup's driver. The names and residence information for the involved persons will be released later this afternoon.

On December 30, 2012 at approximately 6:45 a.m. a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup driven by a 26-year old male was eastbound on Interstate 84 in the left lane near milepost 192 when the driver lost control on an icy section of roadway. The pickup traveled into the center median and rolled 2 Â1/2 times before coming to a rest.

The pickup's passenger, a 69-year old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was transported by ambulance to Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston with non-life threatening injures. He was also using safety restraints.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Umatilla County Sheriff's Office, Hermiston Fire & Rescue, Echo Fire Department, and ODOT.
