Heavy rain caused spotty flooding in the Gaston area Monday.
Among the areas hardest hit were along the Tualatin River just north and east of the city limits.
The Gaston Rural Fire District urges motorists to remember that even a few inches of water can carry a car off a highway, and that danger increases after dark when it's harder to gauge the depth of the water or the edge of the roadway.
Free sand and sand bags are available behind the Gaston fire station, 102 E. Main Street.
