On 10-20-14 the Vancouver Police responded to a school bus collision with a pedestrian who was a student walking to the local area High School. The Vancouver Traffic Unit arrived on scene and took over the investigation.
The pedestrian was walking in the crosswalk when the bus making a left turn from E McLoughlin Blvd to North bound Grand Blvd struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was rush to the hospital and transferred to Randall Children's' Hospital for further treatment. The pedestrian was 15 years old and is expected to survive their significant injuries. There were no other occupants on the school bus.
The investigation is still on going and the driver who remained on scene has cooperated with the investigators.
The driver is identified as Virginia Sharpe and according to the school district has had an excellent driving record.
Low light and inclement weather can complicate road conditions for drivers and pedestrians alike. It is important to be vigilant and alert while driving or walking. Wear bright or reflective clothing and be as visible as possible to vehicles. Operators of vehicles should refrain from using cellular devices or limit distractions in the vehicle. Pedestrians and cyclists should have attention towards road conditions and limit sound devices from distracting their attention. Be Alert Be Vigilant Be Safe.
