Lake Oswego - An alert citizen notice flames from across Westlake bay in Lake Oswego and reported it to 9-1-1 at 1:05 AM. Dispatchers took very little time to pin point the address and directed firefighters to 602 Cabana Lane. When firefighters arrived, they found a storage building on top of a deck that is built over Lakewood bay fully involved in flames. T he fire had spread to the deck area making it challenging with the concerns for falling through the deck. The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported.

The property is the Lakewood Bay Community Club which is an easement among the residents in that neighborhood. Residents have access to the Bay from the easement and about 20 kayaks and paddle boards are stored there and at least 12 of those were destroyed by the fire. They have been working hard to prepare the facilities for summer hours including staining of the deck just yesterday. At this time the fire cause is undetermined but investigators cannot rule out the possibility of oily staining equipment left on the deck.

The fire caused an estimated $25,000 structural and $15,000 content damage including the privately owned kayaks.
