Pacific Power: Grants Pass fire threatens electric service to local customers
GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- A fire just north of town may affect electric service for up to 2,000 Pacific Power customers in the Grants Pass area.
The fire, which started this afternoon, is potentially threatening a 69-kilovolt electricity transmission line that serves Pacific Power's Beacon Hill substation. Pacific Power officials are on the scene, monitoring the evolving situation and working to minimize impacts on customers. Another Pacific Power transmission line is also in the path of the fire, however the company was able to switch customers to a different line, reducing the potential for additional outages.
"Safety of the public and our employees is the main priority during this emergency situation, and we will continue working with fire and other public safety officials to minimize impacts on people and property," said Doug Butler, Pacific Power vice president, operations. "If our facilities are damaged and power outages result, we will restore service to our customers as quickly and safely as possible."
Pacific Power currently has 15 employees working on the situation - 11 linemen, one logistics employee, one service coordinator and two managers. Employees are in the area as "eyes on the ground" in case the fire situation requires that additional lines be de-energized.
To report an outage, call Pacific Power at 1-877-508-5088.
