A detour was set up for traffic during the closure. As a precaution, fire personnel contacted some local residents informing them of the gas line leak.

Afrer the highway was closed, Goffrier drove from the south end closure toward the crash scene and saw a man walking southbound on the northbound shoulder matching the description of the registered owner. After contacting the man identified as FRANCISCO GALICIA, age 22, from Canby, subsequent investigation led to GALICIA's arrest for DUII and Misdemeanor Hit & Run - Property Damage. GALICIA was later cited to appear in Marion County Circuit Court on the charges and released to his parents.
