OSP CREDITS TOLEDO MAN FOR RESCUE OF WOMAN AFTER CAR GOES OFF HIGHWAY 20 INTO YAQUINA RIVER (PHOTOS)

A Toledo-area man is credited by Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers for rescuing a woman Monday morning from a vehicle that rolled off Highway 20 into the Yaquina River west of Eddyville.
According to Trooper Brett Danner, on December 17, 2012 at approximately 10:30 a.m., CINTHIA SPARE, age 30, from Toledo, was eastbound in a Subaru Legacy station wagon on Highway 20 near milepost 18 negotiating through a curve when she lost control, traveled off the highway and rolled sideways down an embankment landing upside down in the Yaquina River. A witness identified as GLENN FAXON, age 49, from Toledo, was traveling westbound, stopped at the scene and saw the car about 10 feet from the embankment partially submerged and floating in the river.
Carrying a jumper cable, FAXON went down the embankment to the river and tossed one end to the woman who had gotten out of her car through a broken window. Holding onto one end of the jumper cable, FAXON brought the woman back to the embankment as her car went under water.
SPARE had a very minor injury and was not transported to a hospital. An Albany-area tow company with help of a commercial diver removed the car from the river.
"Our sincere appreciation goes to Mr. Faxon. Because of the nature of this incident, emergency responders did not have time to reach Ms. Spear. Without his help, the outcome could have been tragic," said Lieutenant Justin McGladrey from the OSP Newport Area Command office.
